The original Alice in Wonderland story is a classic. Does this film live up to it? No, not really. But is it eye-popping and extremely entertaining? Yes.

Let me say that the performances are great. Mia Wasikowska does a good job as Alice and all, but the real standouts are Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter as the Mad Hatter and the Red Queen, respectively. Depp is going full crazy and, hence the name, mad, and Carter plays her role so well that I really despise the Queen. That's always a good sign.
The story lacks a good bit of depth, however, but that is made up by the amazing, and sometimes gory, special effects. The CGI is really crafted to perfection, and the animals look almost believable. The film is not supposed to go heavy on fighting, but the final battle is really something to look at. It works better than other movies that are meant to have good fight scenes.
Alice in Wonderland may make audiences daydream about a more interesting story at times, but it still has loads of visual eye candy to keep moviegoers entertained.
