Album Review: VISIONLAND by YBN Nahmir

Alabama rapper YBN Nahmir has finally dropped his debut studio album Visionland. Does it live up to the hype, or is it just another reminder that Nahmir has lost that spark from his early days of fame? Let's find out in this track-by-track review.

1. Still (Family) ft. Ty Dolla $ign

This song is pretty deep for a person like Nahmir. Although he's not the best on slow beats like this, he does okay, but the real highlight is Ty Dolla $ign, who delivers a soothing chorus over a pretty dope gospel instrumental. Definitely a good way to open the album. This earns a 7/10 from me.

2. Regardless

Although Nahmir raps okay, he doesn't compliment this beat well. His lines are too stretched out, which makes the whole track awkward. However, he still delivers some good bars, so this track earns a 6/10 from me.

3. Politics ft. G Herbo & DaBoii

Although this track is way too long, all three artists on this beat rap pretty good. Nahmir raps like I haven't heard him rap in a hot minute, Herbo delivers heat as usual, and DaBoii, who I have not heard of before, gives a pretty decent verse. Oh, and this beat is pretty clean, so I give this track a strong 7.5/10.

4. Opp Stoppa (Remix) ft. 21 Savage

This remix of Opp Stoppa is even better than the first, because 21 just makes the track much better. He compliments Nahmir's rapping style on this track well, and they both flow smoothly over the beat. I give this track an 8/10, because I revisit it all the time.

5. Get It Crackin

Nahmir has pretty good bars, but this track is just too similar to past ones I've heard from him before, so this is pretty bland and uninteresting. I give this track a 5/10.

6. Fast Car Music (STAIN)

This is definitely one of the strongest tracks from Nahmir in recent years. The beat is immaculate, his flow is neat, and he doesn't sound weird for once on a track. I give this song a 7/10.

7. PRISON

This track sounds okay, I guess. It's not the greatest thing Nahmir could've done, but the beat makes up for his overused flow. I give it a 6.5/10.

8. LAMB TRUCK

This beat is boring and Nahmir's flow is too corny for me to enjoy. It's just awkward and unenjoyable. I give this track a 4/10, which is pretty low.

9. FAST CAR ENDING

Although this beat is good, Nahmir doesn't even rhyme with half of his lines on this track. His flow is stupid and he's doing that voice crack thing on his bars, which is pretty annoying. I give this track a 3.5/10.

10. Wake Up

I know Nahmir made this song a joke after it was released, but I'm pretty sure he thought it was fire when he first released it. His flow is horrendous and he just wastes a fire ass beat. He just talks about WUGMDS the whole time, and not even production from Donnie Katana can save this. I give it a 3/10.

11. Belgium

This beat is pretty bad, and Nahmir's flow is just boring and it sounds like half of the album. I mean, when will he hit puberty? Because he's voice cracking his way through half of these bars. I give this track a 3/10, too.

12. Make A Wish

This YG-type beat is okay, but it's really not my style, and after listening to this track, it's not really Nahmir's style, either. That's okay, but that doesn't make the song any better, so it gets a 4/10 from me.

13. Homework

Finally there's a change in production, with a Playboi Carti type beat. However, Nahmir doesn't work well over it, but the beat is okay, so this track gets a 5.5/10 from me, personally.

14. Streets

This beat is pretty decent, but Nahmir's flow, yet again, does NOT work over a beat like this. He really needs to rap over beats like the ones he rapped over in 2017 and 2018 and link up with Hoodzone again, because they were a winning duo. I give this track a 4/10.

15. WooWAM

For as much as Nahmir was hyping up this track, it's honestly ass. The adlibs going over the lines is awkward, and it sounds horribly mixed. However, the beat is pretty dope, so I give this track a 4.5/10.

16. Soul Train

This beat is fire as HELL, but Nahmir singing is something I never want to hear ever again. Not even autotune can mask this man's horrible crooning. I give this track a 3/10.

17. 2 Seater ft. G-Eazy & Offset

This song is pretty old, but it still slaps. Nahmir, Eazy and Offset all deliver some pretty dope flows, with Nahmir switching it up. The beat is also pretty good, and it's the perfect instrumental for all three of these artists. This track gets a 7.5/10 from me.

18. Ca$hland ft. E-40 & Too $hort

Like I said earlier, Nahmir does not work over YG type beats like this, but at least E-40 delivers some heat instead of Too $hort, who tries but fails to succeed on an instrumental like this. This track gets a solid 5/10 from me.

19. Over Now ft. FatBoy SSE

Nahmir is just trash on this beat, and FatBoy doesn't even spit a verse. He just has a corny motivational speech in between Nahmir's verses. This beat is decent, but this track is a 4/10 from me.

20. Opp Stoppa

Although this track isn't long enough, it still slaps hard and Nahmir delivers some bars. It's an old ass song, but I can still jam to it. The remix is better, but I give this track a 7/10.

OVERALL RATING: 5.25/10
