I'm a bit late on reviewing this new Patrick Cc: tape (like, one or two weeks late), but I felt like reviewing it, because I missed my chance to review Launch Sequence when it came out back in February. Anyways, for those who don't know, Patrick Cc: is a popular hip-hop YouTuber who is known for helping out underground artists. He executive produced this new mixtape, and I'm going to be checking out if it truly shines light on the lesser-known artists featured on the project, or if they fail to bring anything new or memorable to the table.
1. Trending Topic (ft. Beku San and Tre$o)
This track reminds me of something Playboi Carti would've made back in 2017-2018. Beku San reminds me of a Carti back then, and Tre$o has a pretty solid verse. I can definitely see myself keeping this track on repeat, especially with the catchy hook. I give this track a 7.5/10.
2. Delightful (ft. Lil Uber and ZEDSU)
Again, this ZEDSU guy sounds a lot like Carti back in 2017-2018, when he was in his prime. Lil Uber sounds a lot like Post Malone, in my opinion, which is nice. We have yet another catchy hook and a solid verse from ZEDSU, so I'm giving this track 7/10. It's good, but not really anything special.
3. Sunshine (ft. LAYNE, Ben Jamin and Junior Dollar)
This track has an okay hook, but it's way too corny and boring for me to actually enjoy. LAYNE puts some effort into his hook, but Ben Jamin and Junior Dollar half-assed their verses and sucked out any life the track still had. I'm giving this a 4/10, just because it's a lazy song in general.
4. Falling For You (ft. Andre Young and Starboi Gabe)
The Carti influence is very heavy with this project. Starboi Gabe sounds like Carti, but worse than the other two sound-alikes that appear before him. I can appreciate Starboi Gabe's somewhat effort, but this track honestly sounds outdated and cheesy, like a fabricated mainstream hit. I'm giving it a 4.5/10, and I hope this project picks up some steam.
5. Slip N' Slide (ft. UNOWAY and Cyberlxve)
I think the hook on this track is just okay, but Cyberlxve did a decent job with delivering an actually good verse. Still, UNOWAY has a pretty forgettable first verse, and the hook is kind of lazily rapped. I'll give this track a 6/10, due to the fact that Cyberlxve saved the track with his fiery verse.
6. Ashanti (ft. dci., Luxxisdead and damn drone)
I'm not a fan of Playboi Carti's baby voice, so I'm disappointed that dci put a good beat to waste with a bad hook, and that damn drone tried to do that thing where a rapper closes out the track with one last burst of energy. Unfortunately, the energy wasn't there. The only redemption of this track is Luxxisdead, who delivers a somewhat decent verse reminiscent of Gunna. I give this track a 5/10, and I hope this album ends off decently.
7. Make It Out (ft. Lil Igloo)
This is actually the only track from the album I listened to before this review, and it's easy to see why I've kept it on repeat ever since. Lil Igloo has the spotlight all to himself, and he takes advantage of it. He really compliments the wonderful instrumental with non-stop bars, and the beat is just crazy, with the violins at the end, and the way it comes on and builds up to the beat drop. I give this track an 8.5/10, which is really high for me to give any track, but this is just something special.
8. Summers End (ft. LosingLucid, Yung Kage and edenmason)
This track is extremely corny, and could even match the cheesiness of "Falling For You" and "Sunshine." LosingLucid's hook is dumb, and edenmason and Yung Kage deliver crappy verse. Instead of summer's end, I was waiting for the end of this track, so I'll give this song a 4/10. Really disappointing way to end the album, honestly.
FINAL RATING: 5.8/10
SUMMARY:
Although it started out strong, 24 quickly faded into the territory of lazy verses and corny tracks that sounded too outdated for them to bring any kind of nostalgic value. The album may have had a great track to attempt to pick things back up, but it ended in a disappointing way, showing that maybe more consideration should've been taken into the songs that made the cut. I do understand the challenges of making a full-fledged project in only 24 hours on Discord, but it could've been done better. Hopefully Patrick Cc: re-thinks his strategy and comes with better material next time.
