Mixtape Review: Shiesty Season - Spring Deluxe by Pooh Shiesty

Rising Memphis rapper Pooh Shiesty has dropped the official deluxe to his debut mixtape, Shiesty Season. The newer edition includes features from Lil Baby and G Herbo, but does it add something to the original project, or is it merely an unnecessary addition?

1. Switch it Up (ft. G Herbo and No More Heroes)

Although the original version of this track did sound better, this version is also pretty nice and ranks fairly high in Shiesty's discography. The beat sounds like something out of a video game, and Shiesty and Herb deliver flaming-hot verses. Both of the artists flow surprisingly well over the beat, even though it differs from their usual production choices. This track earns a very solid 8.5/10 from me.

2. Welcome to the Riches (ft. Lil Baby)

Although the track is far from the best to come from either artist, Shiesty and Baby deliver decent verses. Baby usually kills his guest features (with a few glaring exceptions recently), and he does not disappoint on this track, sounding more at home than Shiesty, who still delivers a good-enough hook and verse. This track gets a 6.5/10 from me.

3. See Me Comin

The production on this track sounds more like something that Shiesty would rap over, thanks to frequent Shiesty producer TP808. We also get a sprinkle of Young Dolph and Key Glock's go-to producer BandPlay's magic, delivering a touch of perfection on the track. Although Shiesty may be a bit uncoordinated on this track, he still manages the task of having no hook and only a single verse pretty well. This track earns a 6.5/10 from me, like the previous track, since it's not anything I'll be returning to.

4. Murder Skool

This track arguably has the best instrumental out of the four new tracks on this deluxe. It fits in perfectly alongside Shiesty's usual serving of a catchy hook and menacing bars. He delivers some clever lines about Rolling Loud and Fox 13 News, which helps make this track stand out. This earns a strong 7/10 from me.
