Review: Back to the Future (1985)

If you haven't ever heard of Back to the Future, you might as well have been living under a rock your entire life. To not know of the film is to not know of food or water. It's a cultural icon, and its legacy is still prevalent in media today (y'all ever watched Rick & Morty?) But the film itself is an absolute masterpiece, and I'll go over the reasons why in this review.

The acting is on-point in this film. Michael J. Fox is perfectly fit for the role of Marty McFly, and Christopher Lloyd is a scene-stealer as Doc Brown. Crispin Glover and Lea Thompson also give great performances as Marty's parents in the past. The cast really helps the film's concept come to life, and their performances only make the movie better.

The whole story of the film is really something to be in awe of. The way it unfolds is thrilling and extremely entertaining, and it certainly kept me on the edge of my seat all 116 minutes of the film. The special effects are also pretty good for 1985 and $19 million (equivalent to $46.4 million today), and they still decently hold up in 2021. The music also helps set the tone of the film, and the future references when Marty goes to the past are pretty cool.

Back to the Future is a cinematic landmark, taking great lead performances from Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd and mashing them together with an effective story and spectacular visual effects to create a one-of-a-kind moviegoing event.

RATING: 10/10
